About Dataset

DataSF gives the public access to view many datasets that derive from San Francisco. We can learn a lot by exploring these datasets and gain information about the city itself. Our data specifically comes from SF OpenData, which is part of DataSF and the main place that publishes San Francisco's data. The data we used is called "Fire Department Calls for Service, December 2016". It includes dispatch calls for the fire department of San Francisco for the whole month of December. It is organized by type of call and by neighborhood. You can find the full dataset by clicking here.

Our Subset of the Data

We decided to focus on specific call types. We wanted to center it around water, fire, and gas elements, so we created a subset of the data that only included call types of structure fires, gas leaks, and water rescues. Our set contains 2,971 rows of calls made for these three types of incidents. We focus on columns like the date the calls were placed[December 2016 - 31 days], the call type[Structure Fire, Gas Leak, Water Rescue], the neighborhood the incident occurred, and the type of unit needed to assist in the situation[Chief, Truck, Medic, Rescue Squad, Engine].
