Total Structure Fires, Gas Leaks, and Water Rescues

Which type of incident appears the most alarming?

This multi-line graph displays trends of total number of incidents for structure fire, gas leak, and water rescue. [Data Source: SF OpenData]

What we see from this graph is that structure fires dominate over gas leaks and water rescues in San Francisco for the month of December 2016. While gas leaks and water rescues have days where there are no incidents, structure fires do not. We can see every day there are calls made for structure fires, the lowest number of calls in a day was 41 and highest being 135. To view fire calls occuring in specific neighborhoods click here. Although gas leak calls don't have as many records, we can see a peak on the 28th. To view this more clearly, click here for a visualization. Neighborhood Chart

What SF district suffers from all three incident types?

This stacked bar shows an overview of all districts in SF and how many calls occured for each incident that we focused on. [Data Source: SF OpenData]

The bars show us total number of records for each Neighborhood District that experienced at least one of these incidents. The color displays details based on the type of incidient, which helps a viewer understand which call type occured most. From this graph, one can conclude that structure fires are more common in all the districts compared to gas leaks and water rescues. In addition, the graph also illustrates to us that structure fire is the highest in the Tenderloin district. To view a visual about fires in Tenderloin click here. It's interesting to see that some neighborhoods have calls from all incidents, while some only have specific ones. Like Persidio has a lot of water incidents but no structure fires, and Western Addition only has calls for structure fires.
