Hover over each bar to view the average amount of revenue spent or hover over each line to view the financial account. Both visualizations are linked, so they will highlight related information when hovered over. (In the y axis for the line graph and x axis for the bar chart, G = billions.)
These linked line and bar charts are showing the top 10 financial accounts that spend the most revenue yearly. The top expense financial account that revenue is spent on is Salaries, and spending in this account seems to be increasing since 2012. A possible reason for this could more than 5,000 jobs were added in 2011 and continued to be added until 2016 as indicated in the SFExaminer's article.
Furthermore, it's interesting that capital outlays spending took a dip from 2011 to 2014. Capital outlay is basically money spent on fixed assets and is recorded as a liability on the balance sheet. The recent hike in the spending for capital outlays could be potentially attributed to signficantly depreciated property, plant, and equipment, leading to increased spending. In contrast, materials and supplies account expediture has been fairly steady annually, indicated by the almost straight line.
